Our Service
Dependable Gas Line Repair Service in Burleson, TX
The smell of rotten eggs near an appliance, a hissing sound at a fitting, or an unusually high gas bill all point to a problem that needs immediate attention. Big Blade Plumbing & Rooter responds to gas line repairs throughout Burleson, TX, with the tools and training these situations require. Our team arrives with electronic combustible gas detectors, soap solutions, and calibrated pressure gauges to track down the leak source. Older Burleson homes sometimes show corroded threads at appliance connections, deteriorated flex connectors, or aging black iron unions that weep over time. Underground lines may suffer from coating damage, soil shifting, or root pressure that compromises the pipe wall. We isolate the affected zone, shut off supply at the meter or tank, and bleed pressure from the line before any repair work begins. Damaged sections are replaced rather than patched, using materials and fittings that meet or exceed the original installation. Threads are cut clean, sealants are applied at the correct turn count, and joints are tightened to manufacturer specification. Once the repair is complete, the system is pressurized and held under test for the required time to verify integrity. Atmos Energy or the propane provider is coordinated with for meter access and appliance relight where needed. Permits and inspections are handled when local code calls for them. Pricing is shared in straightforward terms before any wrench turns. Since 2007, Burleson households have leaned on our crew to handle gas concerns the right way, every time.

They were honest, got the work done when they said,at the price they said.Very professional, hard honest workers!
CHRIS & BRODY great team, in/out same day, very professional, very friendly, extremely knowledgeable, clean, clean, clean. Explained steps, Communicated proficiently, let Granny hover, & watch, I'm not easy client for any professional. The only thing I wish warranty was minimum 90 days, but I've used, & trusted 1960's plumbing issues, since 2015. We learned to do both roof top clean outs 100 feet minimum for tree roots backing up toilet paper, we only use cheap Scott very thin toilet paper if we don't want more than 1X year clean out. We are seniors, fixed income, every plumbing emergency comes out of food budget. We eat beans & corn bread when we have plumbing issues. God Bless Curly's BIG BLADE PLUMBING Out of Cleburne, Texas. Denise & Christy answer phones, very polite, always helpful, Denise will get you on schedule as soon as possible, never waited very long especially in sewage backups. I always ask for clean, knowledgeable, experienced plumbers. I don't hesitate to call CURLY'S BIG BLADE PLUMBING.

Huge thank you to Lee and his helper! I had a hose burst on my water heater in the early morning. Big Blade was able to send a crew out fast and get the hose replaced.
Big Blade Plumbing & Rooter came out to fix an incoming water line that was leaking in between two bushes. The previous company had quoted a higher price and wanted to remove the bushes and replace the shut off valve, which was still good. Big Blade Plumbing fixed the leak for a much cheaper price and didn’t remove any bushes. For that I give them 5 Stars.
Absolutely one of the best out there! You cannot go wrong using Big Blade, they are awesome.
The price they quoted was the price we paid. No hidden fees! Quality work at a fair price! Professional and courteous!
After having a different company come out and price gouge me and calling around I couldn’t find anybody to help me with my clogged line, I was parked at a gas station and saw BIG BLADE truck drive by so I got out my phone and called, I was greeted on the phone by Denise who was extremely polite and professional, with no high pressure in setting the appointment. The price was extremely fair and affordable so we went ahead and booked an appointment, Hershel and Dylan arrived promptly like within 30-40 minutes of us calling and setting the appointment, they got here and did exactly what they said they were going to without pressuring me into getting other services they executed the repair so fast and explained to me about my 30 day warranty and potential risks to look out for in the future! I would HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND using this service. Amazing job thank you guys so much for you’re help and relieving me of all the stress that comes with plumbing difficulties!

COMPLETED SERVICE CALLS
Gas Line Repair Service
Responding to a suspected gas leak begins long before any repair work starts, and the first phone call to our office sets the tone for the entire response that follows. The smell of natural gas, often described as rotten eggs due to the mercaptan compound added for detection, demands immediate action regardless of how faint or strong the odor seems to the homeowner. Our office staff walks the homeowner through immediate safety steps during the initial call, including opening windows for ventilation, avoiding any electrical switches or open flames near the affected area, and evacuating occupants from the home if the smell is strong. The gas should be shut off at the main meter valve if the homeowner can do so safely without exposing themselves to risk, which stops gas flow into the property entirely until professional help arrives. Calling Atmos Energy or the appropriate gas utility is the right move for situations involving strong odors, suspected major leaks, or any uncertainty about safety. The utility can shut off service at the meter and verify safety before any repair contractor enters the building to assess the situation. Our team coordinates with utility personnel when their involvement is needed and arrives prepared to begin diagnostic work immediately upon clearance to enter the property. Time matters during gas emergencies because gas concentrations build in enclosed spaces over hours, and we treat every call as urgent until the situation is fully assessed and stabilized. Clear communication during that first call helps the homeowner take protective action while we are on the way.
Diagnostic work for gas leak repair uses several tools and techniques that experienced plumbers combine to locate the source quickly and accurately rather than guessing at likely suspects. Electronic gas detectors sense natural gas concentrations far below the explosive lower limit, allowing technicians to trace leaks by sweeping the detector along piping, fittings, and connections systematically. The detector pinpoints leak locations within inches in most cases, which dramatically reduces unnecessary disassembly or wall opening that would otherwise be required. Soap solution applied to suspected leak points produces visible bubbles when gas escapes through the joint, providing direct visual confirmation that supports detector findings. Pressure decay testing isolates sections of the system by closing valves and monitoring pressure over time, which identifies which branch contains the leak when the source is not immediately obvious from surface inspection. Combustion analysis on appliances can reveal upstream issues that affect operation and point to gas supply problems. Documentation of leak locations and the diagnostic process supports both the repair plan and any inspector questions during permit work. Sharing findings with the homeowner in clear language helps everyone understand what was found and what the repair will involve before work begins. Guesswork has no place in gas leak diagnosis. Our team takes the time needed to identify the actual source rather than just the most obvious suspect, because finding only part of the problem leaves the homeowner with continued risk.
Threaded joint leaks account for a substantial share of gas leak repairs in residential systems with black iron piping installed in homes across our service area. Pipe dope or thread tape applied at the time of original installation can dry out, crack, or shrink over decades of service, eventually allowing gas to escape through the threaded connection that was originally tight. Repair involves shutting off gas to the affected section, disassembling the joint carefully to avoid damage to adjacent components, cleaning the threads thoroughly to remove old sealant and any corrosion accumulated over time, and reassembling with fresh approved pipe dope rated specifically for gas service applications. Plumber’s tape designed for water plumbing should never be used on gas joints because it can fail in ways that gas-rated tape cannot, creating new leak risks even as the apparent problem is addressed. Proper torque on the reassembled joint creates a reliable seal without overtightening that could crack the pipe or fitting at the threads. Some joints with severely corroded threads require pipe replacement rather than reassembly, since damaged threads cannot reliably seal even with fresh sealant applied properly. Our team carries fittings, pipe, and approved sealants on the truck so most threaded joint repairs complete in a single visit without delays for parts. Testing the repaired joint under full system pressure confirms the seal before the gas line returns to service for the home.
Pipe damage from physical impact, corrosion, or settlement sometimes requires section replacement rather than simple joint repair to restore safe operation. Outdoor lines struck by lawn equipment, vehicles, falling tree limbs, or construction work can develop dents or punctures that compromise the pipe wall integrity. Buried polyethylene service lines occasionally suffer damage during landscaping projects, sprinkler installation, or other excavation work in the yard near the service path. Corrosion damages above-ground black iron piping over decades in some conditions, particularly where moisture contact accelerates rust on the exterior surface and thins the wall progressively. Foundation settlement and ground movement in the expansive clay soil common across our service area can stress buried lines and create cracks or joint failures over time. Repair of damaged sections requires cutting out the affected pipe with proper tools, deburring the cut ends to ensure clean joining surfaces, and splicing in fresh pipe with approved fittings rated for the specific materials and operating conditions. CSST damage often requires replacing the entire run from one fitting to the next rather than splicing partway through, because CSST joining requires specific fittings at terminations rather than mid-run splices. Each repair gets the appropriate technique for the specific situation rather than a generic approach applied uniformly to every leak.
Valve failures in gas systems can occur at appliance shutoffs, main valves, or intermediate isolation points along the system that homeowners may not know exist. Older multi-turn valves sometimes seize from years of disuse, refusing to close when needed during emergencies or service work when they matter most. Quarter-turn ball valves can fail when their internal ball or seat becomes damaged, allowing gas to pass through even when the valve handle appears fully closed. Leaks at valve bodies or handle stems indicate seal failures that require valve replacement rather than adjustment or tightening. Replacement involves shutting off gas upstream of the failed valve, removing the failed component carefully to avoid damage to connecting pipe, inspecting the threads or joints for any damage during removal, and installing a new valve with appropriate sealant on threaded connections. Each gas appliance should have a working shutoff valve accessible within sight of the appliance per code requirements throughout our service area. Replacing aging multi-turn valves with quarter-turn ball valves during related service work is good practice that pays off during future emergencies when quick shutoff becomes necessary. Big Blade Plumbing & Rooter carries quality gas valves in common sizes for prompt replacement during repair calls.
Repairs on aging galvanized or steel gas lines deserve special attention because of the additional considerations these older materials present compared to modern installations. Galvanized pipe was used for gas service in some older installations and develops internal corrosion over decades that thins pipe walls and weakens the structure progressively. External corrosion on black iron pipe in damp or exposed locations can similarly weaken pipe to the point that connections fail when torqued during repair work. Working on aged piping requires careful assessment to determine whether spot repair will hold or whether broader replacement is needed for safety and long-term reliability. Coupling old pipe to new requires transition fittings approved for the specific materials being joined and the conditions involved. Our team evaluates the overall condition of any system before recommending repair scope, because patching one section of a deteriorating system often leads to new leaks elsewhere within months when the underlying condition continues to deteriorate. Honest conversation with the homeowner about pipe condition supports informed decisions about repair versus replacement. Sometimes the right answer is to replace a longer section than originally planned to address related conditions. Sometimes a targeted repair on otherwise sound piping is exactly appropriate, and we say so directly when that is the case.
Final pressure testing and system commissioning after gas line repair ensures the system is safe to return to service before any appliances are reconnected and gas flow restored. The repaired section, along with related portions of the system that may have been affected during the work, is sealed at appropriate points and pressurized with air to a test pressure exceeding normal operating pressure by a significant margin. The system holds at test pressure for a defined period, typically 30 minutes to an hour or longer based on inspector requirements and code provisions, while every joint, fitting, and connection is monitored for any pressure drop or visible leak. Soap solution applied to suspect joints provides additional verification beyond pressure gauge readings during the test period. Any pressure drop during the test indicates a remaining issue that must be located and corrected before testing can continue to passing conclusion. Once the system holds test pressure without drop, the test passes and the repair can be put back into service after appliance reconnection. Test documentation supports the permit record and provides assurance to the homeowner that the system has been verified properly. Each appliance is checked for safe operation after gas service is restored, including pilot lighting where applicable. We refuse to put any repaired gas system back into service without complete pressure testing, regardless of schedule pressure or urgency from any party involved.

Why Hiring a Licensed Plumber for Gas Line Repair Matters in Burleson
Gas line repair carries life-safety stakes that no homeowner should hand off to an untrained worker. Licensed plumbers in Texas train extensively on gas detection, pipe materials, joint compounds, and pressure testing procedures. Big Blade Plumbing & Rooter has held a Texas plumbing license since 2007, giving Burleson residents verified, accountable service on every gas call. A licensed professional knows how to isolate, repair, and test a gas line without creating new hazards in the process. Unlicensed repairs often miss secondary leaks, use wrong-rated fittings, or skip the final pressure test that confirms safety. Those mistakes lead to slow leaks, carbon monoxide exposure, and potential fire risks inside the home. Texas law requires licensed contractors for gas work, and unpermitted repairs can void homeowner insurance coverage. Licensed plumbers also coordinate with utility providers and inspectors as needed. Our crew respects every code requirement on every visit. Liability and bonding coverage protects your property if anything unexpected happens. Honest reporting on the true condition of your gas system comes standard with our service. Choosing a licensed plumber like Big Blade Plumbing & Rooter means the leak is found, the repair holds, and your family stays safe.
Most Common Gas Line Repair Questions
Gas line repair raises urgent questions for homeowners facing what may be a dangerous situation. Below are the questions Burleson homeowners ask most often during gas line emergencies and repair situations.
The most reliable sign of a gas leak is the distinctive smell of rotten eggs that gas utilities add to natural gas specifically for leak detection. Natural gas itself is odorless, but the mercaptan compound added during processing creates the unmistakable sulfur smell that alerts occupants to potential leaks. The strength of the smell varies based on leak size and ventilation in the affected space, with strong smells indicating substantial leaks while faint odors may signal small leaks worth investigating. Any persistent gas smell deserves immediate action even when faint, because gas concentrations can build up over time in enclosed spaces.
Less obvious signs of gas leaks include hissing sounds near gas piping or appliances, which can indicate gas escaping through small openings under pressure. Dead or dying vegetation above buried gas lines suggests possible underground leaks affecting plant roots. Higher than normal gas bills without explanation can indicate leaks that allow gas to escape and register on the meter without reaching appliances. Pilot lights that frequently extinguish on gas appliances can sometimes signal upstream gas supply issues. Yellow or unsteady flames on burners that normally produce clean blue flames suggest combustion problems that may indicate gas line issues.
Physical symptoms in occupants can sometimes indicate gas exposure, though these symptoms more commonly signal carbon monoxide rather than natural gas itself. Headaches, dizziness, nausea, and unexplained fatigue affecting multiple household members deserve evaluation as potential gas exposure. Pets behaving strangely or showing health symptoms can sometimes alert homeowners to indoor air quality problems. Any combination of physical symptoms with gas smells should trigger immediate evacuation and professional response. Big Blade Plumbing & Rooter responds urgently to suspected gas leak calls throughout Burleson and the surrounding area, with safety as the priority on every response.
Immediate action matters when gas smells are present in a home, and following the right steps protects family members from serious consequences. Open windows and doors to ventilate the space and reduce gas concentration as quickly as possible. Avoid using any electrical switches, light fixtures, appliances, telephones, or anything else that could create a spark inside the home. Leave the affected area and the building entirely when smells are strong or you feel uncertain about safety.
Once outside the home and at a safe distance, call Atmos Energy or the appropriate gas utility from your phone. The utility responds urgently to suspected gas leaks at no charge to the customer and can shut off gas at the meter to stabilize the situation. Calling Big Blade Plumbing & Rooter or another licensed plumbing contractor follows the utility call once they have confirmed safety to enter the building. Do not attempt to locate the leak source yourself or perform any repairs, regardless of mechanical aptitude or do-it-yourself experience.
Wait for professional response before returning to the building or attempting to use any gas appliances. The gas utility verifies whether smells originate from leaks they can address, such as meter problems, or whether the issue lies in customer-owned piping inside the building. Repair work by a licensed plumbing contractor follows confirmation that the issue is on customer-owned piping rather than utility infrastructure. Following these safety procedures protects everyone involved from the consequences gas leaks can cause when handled improperly or treated casually.
Gas line repair costs vary based on the type and location of the leak, the accessibility of the affected piping, and the materials required for proper repair. Simple repairs to threaded joints in accessible locations typically fall at the lower end of the price range. Section replacement requiring excavation, wall access, or extensive disassembly costs more because of the additional labor involved. Underground leaks on buried polyethylene service lines often require excavation work that adds to project cost. We provide flat-rate pricing upfront after thorough assessment so the homeowner knows the total cost before authorizing the repair.
Permit fees and inspection costs add to the total project price in most gas repair situations. The City of Burleson and surrounding municipalities require permits for gas work including repair, and inspection of repaired systems verifies code compliance before return to service. We include all anticipated municipal costs in the upfront quote so there are no surprise charges later in the project. Atmos Energy may charge coordination fees in situations involving meter modifications or service restoration after extensive repair work. Transparent pricing reflects how we have operated since 2007.
Emergency or after-hours service may carry additional fees depending on the timing and complexity of the situation. Gas leaks at midnight require the same skilled response as those during business hours but typically involve premium pricing for after-hours availability. We respond to true gas emergencies regardless of timing because safety cannot wait for business hours. Quotes are provided before work begins so there are no surprises on the final invoice. Financing options are available for qualified customers when repair scope grows significantly during the work. Big Blade Plumbing & Rooter has built our reputation on honest pricing and quality work throughout Burleson.
Gas line repair is absolutely not appropriate for do-it-yourself work under any circumstances. The safety risks alone make this work strictly the domain of licensed plumbing contractors regardless of mechanical ability or repair experience with other systems. Even minor gas leaks create explosion hazards from any ignition source nearby, including water heater pilots, electrical switches, static discharge, and various other sources homeowners may not consider. Carbon monoxide from improperly burning appliances connected to faulty repairs causes illness or death without visible warning to occupants.
Texas state law and local code in Burleson and every surrounding municipality require licensed plumbing contractors for gas work without exception for homeowner self-repair. Atmos Energy and other gas utilities require licensed contractors for any work on systems connected to their service. Permits cannot be pulled by homeowners for gas work in our service area, eliminating any legal pathway for owner-builder gas repair. Inspections required by code cannot certify unlicensed work, leaving the homeowner with repairs that fail at inspection and during home sales.
Insurance policies typically exclude coverage for damage caused by unlicensed gas work, leaving homeowners exposed to potentially catastrophic losses from fires, explosions, or carbon monoxide events traced to do-it-yourself attempts. The cost of professional repair is reasonable compared to the potential consequences of unlicensed work going wrong. Licensed plumbers carry the proper materials, tools, training, and insurance that protect both the immediate repair and the homeowner’s long-term interests. Big Blade Plumbing & Rooter handles gas repairs throughout Burleson with the seriousness this work requires. There is no acceptable shortcut on gas piping repair, and the consequences of cutting corners on this work fall on the entire household.
A typical gas line repair takes between two and four hours from arrival to cleanup, assuming the leak is located accessibly and the repair scope remains contained. Simple threaded joint repairs in accessible locations complete most quickly because disassembly, repair, and testing all happen relatively rapidly. Section replacement requiring more extensive disassembly adds time for cutting, fitting, and joining new pipe to existing systems. Repairs requiring wall access, attic work, or other challenging conditions extend timelines accordingly. Pressure testing adds an hour or more to every repair regardless of the underlying scope.
Underground leaks on buried service lines take longer because excavation must precede the actual pipe work. Locating the leak underground, excavating to expose the affected section, performing the repair, pressure testing, and backfilling all add to the total project time. Weather and soil conditions can affect underground work, particularly during wet periods or hard freezes. Coordination with Atmos Energy for meter shutoff and service restoration sometimes adds scheduling time beyond the actual repair work itself. Permit processing and inspection scheduling can extend total project completion beyond the time required for the physical repair work.
Same-day completion is the goal for most gas repairs we handle, particularly emergency situations involving active leaks. Carrying common parts, fittings, and materials on the truck allows immediate repair for most routine situations without delays for parts acquisition. Complex repairs involving extensive replacement, multiple locations, or coordination with other trades naturally take longer but proceed according to the timeline established during initial assessment. Communication during the project keeps the homeowner informed about progress and any developments affecting timing. Realistic time estimates are part of every gas repair discussion at our initial visit.
Several factors contribute to gas line leaks in residential systems, and understanding the causes helps homeowners recognize risks before failures occur. Age and corrosion account for many leaks in older systems, particularly black iron piping installed decades ago that has developed external corrosion or weakened threaded joints. Threaded joint sealant dries out and shrinks over time, eventually allowing gas to escape through connections that were tight when first installed. Galvanized piping used in some older installations can develop internal corrosion that thins pipe walls and weakens the overall structure.
Physical damage causes a significant portion of gas leak emergencies that require immediate response. Excavation work in yards for landscaping, sprinkler installation, or other projects sometimes strikes buried gas service lines despite required call-before-you-dig protocols. Above-ground lines can be damaged by lawn equipment, vehicles backing into them, falling objects, or other physical impacts. Settlement in expansive clay soil common across our service area stresses buried lines over time and can create cracks or joint failures.
Improper installation creates leak risks that may not appear immediately but develop over time. Joints assembled with insufficient sealant, wrong sealant type, or improper torque can leak from the day they were installed. Materials inappropriate for the application, such as fittings not rated for gas service, fail in ways that compromise system integrity. Code violations in original installation work create issues that may continue causing problems for years. Recent repairs by unlicensed parties sometimes show up as leak sources during diagnostic work. Our team identifies the underlying cause during repair work to address both the immediate leak and any related conditions that may cause future problems. Big Blade Plumbing & Rooter brings the experience to recognize and address all common leak causes throughout Burleson homes.
Annual visual inspection of accessible gas piping is good practice for any home with gas service. Visible portions of pipe at the meter, water heater, furnace, range, and other appliances can be checked for obvious corrosion, damage, or signs of moisture indicating possible problems. Connections to appliances should be visually verified for proper condition, with attention to flexible connectors that have specific replacement intervals. Soap solution applied periodically to suspect joints reveals any small leaks that may not be obvious otherwise. Homeowners who notice changes in gas appliance operation should consider those changes as potential signals of upstream issues.
Professional inspection by a licensed plumber every few years catches developing issues that homeowners may not recognize on their own. Comprehensive inspection includes pressure testing of the entire system to identify any leaks too small for casual detection but significant enough to address. Examination of valves, fittings, and connections verifies their condition and operation. Appliance combustion analysis confirms efficient operation that depends partly on proper gas supply pressure and integrity. Documentation of inspection findings becomes part of the property record and supports future home sales by demonstrating attention to system maintenance.
Specific events should trigger inspection regardless of timing since the last review. After any significant settlement, foundation movement, or excavation work near the property, inspection helps identify any consequences for gas piping. Following hard freeze events that have damaged other plumbing, gas systems deserve inspection to confirm no related issues developed. Before adding new gas appliances, inspection of existing capacity ensures the system can support the additional load. Home purchases should include gas system inspection as part of comprehensive plumbing review. Big Blade Plumbing & Rooter provides gas system inspections for Burleson homeowners who want proactive understanding of their system. Prevention costs a fraction of emergency response.
Untreated gas leaks pose serious and growing risks that justify immediate professional response regardless of leak size. Even small leaks release gas continuously into the surrounding environment, with concentrations gradually building in enclosed spaces toward the lower explosive limit where ignition becomes possible. Once concentrations reach the explosive range, any spark from an electrical switch, appliance pilot, static discharge, or other ignition source can cause fires or explosions with catastrophic consequences. Larger leaks reach dangerous concentrations more quickly while smaller leaks pose risks over longer periods.
Carbon monoxide poisoning is another serious consequence of gas system problems that affects health without producing the rotten egg smell of natural gas leaks. Faulty appliances connected to compromised gas piping may produce carbon monoxide in dangerous concentrations while delivering apparent normal operation. Carbon monoxide is colorless, odorless, and tasteless, making detection without proper alarms essentially impossible. Symptoms include headaches, dizziness, nausea, confusion, and loss of consciousness, with extended exposure causing serious health consequences or death. Carbon monoxide detectors throughout the home provide essential protection.
Financial and property consequences of untreated leaks extend beyond the immediate safety concerns. Higher gas bills from continuous gas loss affect ongoing operating costs as long as the leak persists. Property damage from fires or explosions can total hundreds of thousands of dollars in serious incidents. Insurance complications affect both the immediate response and long-term property coverage, particularly when investigators find evidence of known but untreated problems. Resale problems develop when home inspections identify gas system issues that should have been addressed.
