Our Service

Dependable Gas Line Installation Service in Burleson, TX

Adding a gas line opens up options that change how a home cooks, heats, and entertains, from a new range to a backyard grill station. Big Blade Plumbing & Rooter installs natural gas and propane lines throughout Burleson, TX, with the planning and craft these projects demand. Our team starts by mapping every appliance the system will serve, then totals the BTU load at peak demand. That total drives pipe sizing, since a line that looks adequate on paper can starve appliances when several run at once. Black iron remains the workhorse for many indoor applications, while CSST offers flexibility through finished walls and tight framing bays. Approved polyethylene serves underground runs, paired with risers that transition cleanly above grade. Each joint receives a thread sealant rated specifically for gas service, applied at the correct number of turns to prevent leaks. Shut-off valves go in at locations that actually help during maintenance and emergencies, not buried behind drywall or appliances. Bonding is added to CSST runs to protect against lightning-related arcing, which matters more than many homeowners realize. Pressure testing follows installation, holding the system at code-specified levels long enough to confirm every connection is tight. Permits are pulled when required, and inspections are scheduled with the local authority before the system goes into service. Outdoor lines are buried at proper depth with tracer wire so future locates are straightforward. Pricing and scope are spelled out clearly before any pipe is cut. Since 2007, Burleson property owners have trusted our crew to deliver gas systems that perform safely for the long haul.

CHRIS & BRODY great team, in/out same day, very professional, very friendly, extremely knowledgeable, clean, clean, clean. Explained steps, Communicated proficiently, let Granny hover, & watch, I'm not easy client for any professional. The only thing I wish warranty was minimum 90 days, but I've used, & trusted 1960's plumbing issues, since 2015. We learned to do both roof top clean outs 100 feet minimum for tree roots backing up toilet paper, we only use cheap Scott very thin toilet paper if we don't want more than 1X year clean out. We are seniors, fixed income, every plumbing emergency comes out of food budget. We eat beans & corn bread when we have plumbing issues. God Bless Curly's BIG BLADE PLUMBING Out of Cleburne, Texas. Denise & Christy answer phones, very polite, always helpful, Denise will get you on schedule as soon as possible, never waited very long especially in sewage backups. I always ask for clean, knowledgeable, experienced plumbers. I don't hesitate to call CURLY'S BIG BLADE PLUMBING.

Big Blade Plumbing & Rooter came out to fix an incoming water line that was leaking in between two bushes. The previous company had quoted a higher price and wanted to remove the bushes and replace the shut off valve, which was still good. Big Blade Plumbing fixed the leak for a much cheaper price and didn’t remove any bushes. For that I give them 5 Stars.

After having a different company come out and price gouge me and calling around I couldn’t find anybody to help me with my clogged line, I was parked at a gas station and saw BIG BLADE truck drive by so I got out my phone and called, I was greeted on the phone by Denise who was extremely polite and professional, with no high pressure in setting the appointment. The price was extremely fair and affordable so we went ahead and booked an appointment, Hershel and Dylan arrived promptly like within 30-40 minutes of us calling and setting the appointment, they got here and did exactly what they said they were going to without pressuring me into getting other services they executed the repair so fast and explained to me about my 30 day warranty and potential risks to look out for in the future! I would HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND using this service. Amazing job thank you guys so much for you’re help and relieving me of all the stress that comes with plumbing difficulties!

Gas Line Installation Service

Planning a gas line installation starts with understanding the load the new line must support, because undersized piping causes appliances to malfunction and creates real safety problems for the home. Our plumbers calculate the demand from each appliance the line will serve, expressed in BTU per hour, and add up the total load the system must deliver during peak use when multiple appliances run simultaneously. Water heaters typically draw 30,000 to 50,000 BTU per hour, gas ranges range from 40,000 to 70,000 BTU per hour, and tankless water heaters often demand 150,000 to 200,000 BTU per hour at peak. Generators, outdoor kitchens, and pool heaters can add substantial additional load that affects sizing across the entire system in ways that surprise homeowners who have not done this math before. The length of the run from the meter to the appliance, every fitting along the path, and every elevation change all create pressure drops that proper sizing must account for. Pipe sizing charts from the International Fuel Gas Code provide the foundation for sizing calculations specific to each installation in our service area. The pressure available at the meter, typically 7 inches water column for standard residential service, dictates how much pipe length the system can support at given diameters before pressure drops below appliance minimums. Each project receives sizing calculations based on actual loads rather than guesswork or copying what existing pipe sizes happen to be in the home. Underestimating future load also creates problems, so we discuss planned additions during the sizing conversation.

Material selection for gas piping affects both safety and long-term reliability across decades of service in the home. Black iron pipe has been the residential gas standard for many decades and continues to perform reliably when properly installed with appropriate sealant on threaded joints. Corrugated stainless steel tubing, commonly called CSST, has become increasingly popular because its flexibility allows easier installation through finished spaces without extensive demolition of walls and ceilings. CSST requires specific bonding to the electrical grounding system to protect against lightning damage that has caused fires in earlier installations before bonding standards were established. Polyethylene pipe is approved for buried gas service runs, including connections to outdoor kitchens, pool heaters, and detached structures, and requires transition fittings to metallic pipe at any point where the line emerges above ground or enters a building. Each material has specific approved fittings, joining methods, and installation requirements that vary by jurisdiction and application within our service area. Our team explains material options to homeowners during the planning phase, including the differences in cost, installation impact on finished surfaces, and long-term performance characteristics. The right material for one installation is often different from the right material for another, depending on routing, accessibility, and code requirements applicable to the specific work. Hybrid installations using multiple materials for different portions of the system are common.

Routing the new gas line through walls, attics, crawl spaces, and outdoor areas requires planning around structural members, other utilities, and access for future service work. Concealed gas lines must be installed with specific clearances from electrical wiring, other utilities, and structural elements per code requirements that protect both the gas system and adjacent systems. Lines crossing through fire-rated assemblies require special protection that maintains the fire resistance of the wall or ceiling being penetrated. Outdoor runs need protection from physical damage and proper sealing where they penetrate the building envelope to prevent moisture intrusion. Underground runs require protection sleeves at slab penetrations, proper bedding material to prevent point loading on the pipe, tracer wire for future locating, and burial depth that meets local requirements for freeze protection. Routing decisions consider not just the most direct path but the most accessible path for future service, the path that least disrupts finished surfaces during installation, and the path that complies with all clearance requirements from code. Our plumbers walk the proposed route with the homeowner before any work begins, identifying access requirements, anticipated wall openings, and any finished surfaces that may need to be temporarily disturbed during installation work. Clear planning reduces surprises during the project and helps the homeowner understand what to expect from the work and any restoration that will follow.

Connecting the new line to the existing gas system at the meter, the building entry, or an existing branch requires careful attention to the tie-in process. Gas service to the work area must be shut off at the meter or an upstream valve before any cuts are made into pressurized piping anywhere in the system. Existing fittings and pipe ends at the tie-in point are inspected for condition, with replacement of suspect components rather than reuse when integrity is uncertain. The new branch incorporates a properly sized shutoff valve near the tie-in point so future service can isolate the new line without affecting other appliances connected elsewhere on the system. Threaded connections use approved pipe dope or thread tape rated specifically for gas service rather than products meant for water plumbing applications. Compression fittings on flexible CSST require manufacturer-specified tools and torque values for reliable connections that hold under pressure over years of service. Joints on polyethylene pipe use heat fusion or mechanical compression fittings rated for gas service and the soil conditions where the pipe is buried. After every connection is complete, the system is pressurized for testing before any appliance connections are made or service is restored to the property. Documentation of the tie-in work supports inspection and becomes part of the permanent project record.

Pressure testing the new gas line before it is put into service is the single most important quality control step on any installation we perform. The new line is sealed at the appliance end and pressurized with air to a test pressure that exceeds normal operating pressure by a significant margin to verify system integrity. The pressure is held for a defined period, typically 30 minutes to an hour or longer depending on inspector requirements and code provisions in the specific jurisdiction. Any pressure drop during the test indicates a leak somewhere in the new system that must be located and corrected before testing can resume to passing conclusion. Joints, fittings, and valves are checked individually with leak detection solution or electronic detectors when the gauge shows pressure loss anywhere in the system. Once the system holds full test pressure without any drop, the test passes and the line can be put into service after final connections to appliances are made and verified. Test documentation becomes part of the permit record and provides proof of proper installation for the homeowner during future home sales or insurance claims. We refuse to put any gas line into service that has not passed a complete pressure test, regardless of schedule pressure or any other factor that might tempt corner-cutting. The consequences of putting an untested system into service are simply unacceptable.

Connecting appliances to the new gas line completes the installation work after pressure testing has confirmed system integrity through full verification. Each appliance connection uses approved flexible gas connectors rated for the specific application and the operating conditions involved, with appliance-specific shutoff valves located accessibly for emergency use by the homeowner. Connector length should match the appliance’s installed position without excessive slack that creates trip hazards or kinks that restrict gas flow to the appliance. Range and dryer connections use specific connectors rated for the heat and movement these appliances experience during normal use over their service lives. Outdoor appliance connections use connectors rated for exterior service that resist UV degradation and corrosion from weather exposure over years of installation. Water heater connections coordinate with proper venting, combustion air supply, and any required pressure regulation for the specific unit being installed. After connections are complete, the gas supply is restored and each appliance is tested for proper operation, including pilot lighting where applicable and combustion verification where equipment allows. The homeowner is shown the locations of all shutoff valves and instructed on safe operation of each connected appliance.

Coordination with the City of Burleson, Atmos Energy or other gas utilities, and other tradespeople involved in larger projects requires careful project management throughout the installation. Permits are pulled before work begins and inspections scheduled at appropriate phases according to local requirements that vary between municipalities in our service area. Some installations require utility involvement for meter modifications, service upgrades, or initial gas restoration after extensive work. Larger projects often involve coordination with HVAC contractors installing new furnaces or air conditioners, electricians installing dedicated circuits for appliances, and general contractors managing remodels or new construction phases. Our team handles administrative coordination directly so the homeowner does not navigate multiple parties during the project on top of everything else they are managing. Communication about timing, sequencing, and any required modifications happens throughout the project rather than only at completion when problems emerge. Final inspection by the city verifies code compliance and provides the formal approval that supports future home sales and insurance claims. Documentation including pressure test results, materials lists, and inspection sign-offs becomes part of the property record. Big Blade Plumbing & Rooter manages every aspect of the project so the homeowner can focus on enjoying the new gas service.

Our Service

Why Hiring a Licensed Plumber for Gas Line Installation Matters in Burleson

Gas line work carries serious risk and is one of the most regulated trades in Texas for good reason. Licensed plumbers complete extensive training on gas pressures, pipe sizing, leak testing, and combustion safety. Big Blade Plumbing & Rooter has held a Texas plumbing license since 2007, giving Burleson customers verified, accountable workmanship on every gas project. A licensed professional knows the correct materials, fittings, and sealants approved for natural gas and propane service. Unlicensed gas work often uses wrong-rated parts, skips pressure testing, or hides joints inside walls without proper protection. Those shortcuts create leak risks, carbon monoxide hazards, and potential fire dangers for the entire household. Licensed plumbers also pull required permits and schedule inspections, which protects your home and your insurance coverage. Texas law requires licensed contractors for most gas installations, and violations can void homeowner policies. Our crew respects every code requirement on every job. Liability and bonding coverage adds another layer of protection for your property. Honest sizing, transparent pricing, and warrantied workmanship come standard with our service. Choosing a licensed plumber like Big Blade Plumbing & Rooter means the gas system is installed safely, tested thoroughly, and trusted for years.

Most Common Gas Line Installation Questions

Gas line installation is serious work that involves safety considerations beyond typical plumbing projects. Below are the questions Burleson homeowners ask most often before scheduling new gas line work.

A typical residential gas line installation takes one to three days depending on the length of the run, the routing through the home, and the number of appliances being connected. Simple installations connecting a single new appliance to an existing nearby branch line can sometimes complete in a single day. Adding a new branch line to serve a remodeled kitchen with a gas range, gas dryer connection, or a tankless water heater conversion typically requires more time for routing, connecting, and testing. Full-house gas repipe projects, often performed during major remodels or after discovering widespread problems, can take several days to a week depending on home size and complexity. Underground runs to detached structures, outdoor kitchens, or pool equipment require additional time for excavation, installation, and proper backfill.

Permit processing adds lead time before the actual installation work begins. The City of Burleson and surrounding municipalities typically process gas permits within a few business days, though some cities offer expedited service when needed. Inspections after installation are scheduled around inspector availability and can extend total project timing by a day or two beyond the physical work. Coordination with Atmos Energy for meter modifications or service work adds time when those activities are required. Some installations require restoration of gas service by utility personnel after extensive work, which depends on utility scheduling. Weather and access conditions for outdoor work can extend timelines for buried installations. Realistic timelines are part of every project discussion during the initial consultation.

Same-day installation completion is the goal for simpler projects whenever possible. Carrying common parts and fittings on the truck allows our team to handle most routine installations without multiple visits or trips to suppliers. Complex projects involving extensive routing, multiple appliances, or coordination with other trades naturally take longer but complete according to the timeline established during planning. Communication during the project keeps the homeowner informed about progress and any developments that affect timing. Patience pays off on gas work because rushing creates safety risks that no schedule pressure justifies. Big Blade Plumbing & Rooter manages timelines carefully on every gas installation across Burleson and surrounding communities.

Gas line installation costs vary significantly based on the length of the run, the routing complexity, the materials required, and the number of appliances being connected. Short runs serving a single new appliance through accessible spaces fall at the lower end of the price range. Longer runs that require routing through multiple walls, ceilings, or attics cost more because of increased labor and materials. Underground runs to outdoor kitchens, pool heaters, or detached structures involve excavation work that adds to the project cost. Full-house gas repipes are the most extensive projects and carry corresponding costs that reflect the scope. We provide flat-rate pricing upfront after thorough assessment so the homeowner knows the total cost before authorizing the work.

Permit fees and inspection costs add to the total project price in nearly every installation we handle. The City of Burleson, along with surrounding municipalities, charges permit fees for gas work that vary by project scope and the specific city. Inspection visits are sometimes included in the permit fee and sometimes charged separately depending on local procedures. We include all anticipated municipal costs in the upfront quote so there are no surprise charges later in the project. Some installations require utility coordination fees from Atmos Energy or other gas providers for meter work or service modifications. Transparent pricing reflects how we have operated since 2007 throughout Burleson and the surrounding area.

Additional services discovered during installation can affect the final cost. Existing gas piping in poor condition may need replacement during the project rather than being connected to new work. Wall, ceiling, or floor access required for routing through finished spaces can require subsequent repair by drywall and finish contractors. Bonding requirements for CSST installations include electrical work that may require coordination with an electrician. Appliance connections sometimes reveal undersized existing piping that must be upsized to support the planned new equipment. Our team discusses any unexpected requirements with the homeowner before additional work proceeds. Transparent communication about costs throughout the project prevents surprises at invoice time.

Gas line installation is not appropriate for do-it-yourself work for any reason. The safety risks, code requirements, permit requirements, and utility regulations all combine to make this work strictly the domain of licensed plumbing contractors. Even minor gas leaks can accumulate in enclosed spaces and create explosion hazards from any nearby ignition source. Carbon monoxide produced by improperly installed appliances connected to faulty gas piping can cause illness or death without any visible warning. Insurance policies typically exclude coverage for damage caused by unlicensed gas work, leaving homeowners exposed to potentially catastrophic losses.

Texas state law and local code in Burleson, along with every surrounding municipality, require licensed plumbing contractors for gas work without exception for homeowner self-installation. Atmos Energy and other gas utilities require licensed contractors for any work connecting to their systems, and unlicensed work can result in service disconnection until the situation is corrected by qualified professionals. Permits cannot be pulled by homeowners for most gas work in our service area, eliminating the legal pathway that exists in some jurisdictions for owner-builder projects on other plumbing or electrical work. Inspections required by code cannot certify unlicensed work, leaving the homeowner with installations that fail at inspection and during home sales.

The case for hiring licensed professionals for gas work is not just about safety but about protecting the home, the family, and the financial investment in the property. The cost of professional installation is reasonable compared to the potential consequences of unlicensed work going wrong. Licensed plumbers carry the proper materials, tools, training, and insurance that protect both the immediate work and the homeowner’s long-term interests. Big Blade Plumbing & Rooter handles gas installations throughout Burleson with the seriousness this work requires. There is no acceptable shortcut on gas piping, and we never compromise on safety regardless of homeowner budget pressure or schedule constraints.

Black iron pipe has been the traditional residential gas standard for many decades and remains widely used today. Threaded black iron pipe joins with appropriate pipe sealant or thread tape rated specifically for gas service rather than products meant for water plumbing. The material is durable, well-understood by inspectors and tradespeople, and approved by every relevant code in our service area. Black iron requires straight runs with elbows at direction changes, which makes installations through finished spaces more invasive than alternatives. Wall openings, ceiling penetrations, and floor crossings all need to accommodate the rigidity of black iron piping. The material is well-suited for installations during new construction or major remodels where wall access is already open.

Corrugated stainless steel tubing has become increasingly popular for residential gas work because its flexibility allows easier installation through finished spaces. CSST can route around obstacles, pass through smaller wall openings, and connect appliances without the multiple elbow fittings that black iron requires. The flexibility makes CSST particularly valuable in remodel work where avoiding extensive demolition matters to the homeowner. CSST requires specific bonding to the electrical grounding system to protect against lightning damage that has caused fires in earlier installations. Listed and labeled CSST products meet current safety standards and bonding requirements that protect against these risks. Manufacturer-specific fittings, tools, and torque values must be followed precisely for reliable connections.

Polyethylene pipe is approved for buried gas service connecting to outdoor kitchens, pool heaters, generators, and detached structures. The material is flexible, resistant to corrosion in soil contact, and continuous in long lengths without buried joints when properly installed. Polyethylene cannot be used above ground or inside buildings because of fire safety concerns. Transition fittings move from polyethylene to metallic pipe at any point where the line emerges above grade or enters a building. Heat fusion or mechanical compression fittings rated for gas service join polyethylene sections. Tracer wire installed alongside polyethylene gas lines allows future locating with electronic detection equipment. Our team selects materials based on the specific application rather than defaulting to any single product across all situations.

Yes, gas line installation requires permits in the City of Burleson and every surrounding municipality without exception. The permit process protects homeowners by requiring licensed contractors, verifying proper materials and techniques, and documenting completed work for the property record. Inspections after installation confirm that the work meets all applicable codes for safety, performance, and reliability. Skipping permits exposes homeowners to insurance claim denials, resale problems, and potential code enforcement action when unpermitted work is discovered. Atmos Energy and other gas utilities can disconnect service when unpermitted modifications are found.

The permit process typically takes a few business days for residential gas work, though emergency situations sometimes qualify for expedited processing. Applications include the project scope, materials being used, the licensed contractor’s information, and a description of routing through the property. Some municipalities require simple drawings showing the proposed pipe route on plans of the home. Permit fees vary by city and project complexity but are generally a modest portion of the overall project cost. We include all permitting fees in the upfront quote so there are no surprises during the project. Once issued, permits must be posted at the job site during installation and inspection visits.

Inspection requirements typically include checks during installation, after pressure testing, and at final connection to appliances. The inspector verifies materials, joining methods, pipe routing, clearances from other utilities, bonding for CSST installations, and pressure test documentation. Backfill for buried sections cannot proceed until inspection of the underground portion passes. Final inspection after appliance connections verifies operation under load and the overall integrity of the installed system. Our team coordinates every inspection and addresses any items the inspector flags promptly. Passing inspection on the first visit is the goal on every project, and our installation practices reflect that priority.

Common residential gas appliances include water heaters, furnaces, ranges, ovens, cooktops, dryers, fireplaces, and pool heaters. Water heaters represent one of the most common gas appliance installations and demand significant gas flow during operation, particularly tankless water heaters that consume far more gas than traditional tank units. Furnaces use gas as the primary heat source for forced-air heating systems and operate during cold weather. Ranges, ovens, and cooktops use gas for cooking with the precise temperature control that gas combustion provides. Gas dryers offer faster drying than electric models and lower operating costs in most regions.

Outdoor gas appliances have become increasingly popular in recent years as homeowners invest in outdoor living spaces. Built-in grills connected to permanent gas service eliminate the need for portable propane tanks and provide consistent fuel pressure for cooking. Outdoor heaters for patios and pergolas extend usable outdoor time during cooler months. Pool and spa heaters use gas for efficient water temperature control during periods of use. Outdoor fireplaces and fire pits create gathering spaces around real flames without the smoke and maintenance of wood burning. Each outdoor application requires gas service routed and protected for exterior conditions.

Whole-home generators have become more common after recent extreme weather events highlighted the value of backup power. Standby generators use gas to produce electricity during utility outages, requiring substantial gas supply capacity to handle large loads. Tankless water heaters require larger gas lines than traditional tank units due to their high BTU demand during operation. Modern high-efficiency furnaces sometimes require larger gas service to handle peak demand. Adding gas appliances to existing service sometimes requires upsizing the meter or main line to handle the increased total load. Our team evaluates total load before installations to confirm existing service capacity handles the new equipment.

Properly installed black iron gas pipe typically lasts 50 years or more in residential service when not subjected to unusual corrosion or physical damage. The material is durable, with thick walls that resist deterioration over decades of normal use. Threaded joints with proper sealant remain tight for the life of the system when installed correctly with appropriate torque. Corrosion can shorten lifespan in some conditions, particularly outdoors or in areas with moisture exposure that black iron is not ideal for.

Corrugated stainless steel tubing has shorter documented service history than black iron because the material has been in widespread residential use for fewer decades. Manufacturer warranties typically range from 25 years to lifetime depending on the specific product and installation type. Real-world performance in installations from the 1990s and early 2000s has been generally good when proper bonding to electrical grounding has been performed. CSST is expected to deliver multi-decade service in typical applications, though specific longevity claims will become clearer as more installations age.

Polyethylene gas pipe in buried service typically delivers 50 years or more when properly installed in suitable soil conditions. The material does not corrode in contact with most soils, which contributes to its long expected service life. Damage from excavation work or settlement can shorten actual lifespan when external forces affect buried lines. Tracer wire and protective sleeves at transitions help preserve buried gas pipe over decades. Our team installs all gas piping materials with longevity in mind, using techniques and materials proven to perform in regional conditions over many years of service.

Gas appliance shutoff valves should be located in accessible positions within sight of each appliance they serve. The valve provides quick isolation of the appliance during service, emergencies, or when the appliance needs to be moved or removed. Local code typically requires shutoffs in the same room as the appliance and within six feet of the connection point. Some specific applications have different requirements, with water heater valves often located on the wall behind the unit and range valves typically behind the range or under an adjacent cabinet.

Quarter-turn ball valves are the preferred shutoff valve type for gas appliances because they close completely with a 90-degree handle rotation. Older multi-turn valves often seize from disuse and may not close fully during emergencies when they matter most. Replacing aging multi-turn valves with quarter-turn ball valves during gas service work is good practice. Valves should operate smoothly when tested, and any binding or resistance indicates the valve should be replaced before continuing in service.

Each appliance gets its own dedicated shutoff valve in modern installations, allowing service or repair of one appliance without affecting others connected to the same system. The valves should be marked or labeled when not obvious about which appliance they control. Homeowners should know the location of every gas shutoff valve in the home for emergency use during gas smell events or appliance problems. Big Blade Plumbing & Rooter shows homeowners every shutoff location during gas installations and explains proper emergency procedures. Knowing how to shut off gas quickly during an emergency protects the home and family from potentially serious consequences.
