Our Service
Dependable Leak Detection Service in Burleson, TX
Hidden leaks waste water, damage structures, and drive up utility bills long before most homeowners notice the source. Big Blade Plumbing & Rooter pinpoints these leaks throughout Burleson, TX, using acoustic listening equipment, thermal imaging, and pressure testing. Our team starts with a system-wide pressure check to confirm a leak exists and estimate its severity. Slab leaks, supply line failures, hose bib drips, and irrigation breaks all show up in North Texas homes. We trace the leak to its exact location, marking the spot clearly so repair work stays minimal and targeted. Hot water slab leaks often reveal themselves through warm flooring, while cold water leaks may show as damp drywall or unexplained meter movement. Foundation issues, increased water bills, and the sound of running water with all fixtures off are common warning signs. We inspect supply lines, drain stacks, and outdoor systems to rule out every source. Camera scopes assist when leaks involve drain or sewer lines instead of pressurized supply. Pricing is shared clearly before any work begins, and findings are explained in plain terms. Since 2007, Burleson families have trusted our crew for accurate answers without guesswork. The result is a leak located, documented, and ready for clean repair.

CHRIS & BRODY great team, in/out same day, very professional, very friendly, extremely knowledgeable, clean, clean, clean. Explained steps, Communicated proficiently, let Granny hover, & watch, I'm not easy client for any professional. The only thing I wish warranty was minimum 90 days, but I've used, & trusted 1960's plumbing issues, since 2015. We learned to do both roof top clean outs 100 feet minimum for tree roots backing up toilet paper, we only use cheap Scott very thin toilet paper if we don't want more than 1X year clean out. We are seniors, fixed income, every plumbing emergency comes out of food budget. We eat beans & corn bread when we have plumbing issues. God Bless Curly's BIG BLADE PLUMBING Out of Cleburne, Texas. Denise & Christy answer phones, very polite, always helpful, Denise will get you on schedule as soon as possible, never waited very long especially in sewage backups. I always ask for clean, knowledgeable, experienced plumbers. I don't hesitate to call CURLY'S BIG BLADE PLUMBING.
Very good experience! Everyone that I encountered from this organization was kind and helpful from the lady that answered the phone to the plumber and his helper who did the job. I was scheduled promptly. They called and gave me the time that he would arrive. The job was done quickly and professionally by a Master plumber. They also left things clean and showed me how things work ed. I will use them again when I have plumbing needs.
I had a great experience with Curly’s Big Blade Plumbing installing my new water heater. The team was professional, on time, and clearly knew what they were doing. Big Blade did a great job for me. They came quickly and completed everything with good quality. They also offered good advice on some minor chages that will make a difference going forward.
Huge thank you to Lee and his helper! I had a hose burst on my water heater in the early morning. Big Blade was able to send a crew out fast and get the hose replaced.
Big Blade Plumbing & Rooter came out to fix an incoming water line that was leaking in between two bushes. The previous company had quoted a higher price and wanted to remove the bushes and replace the shut off valve, which was still good. Big Blade Plumbing fixed the leak for a much cheaper price and didn’t remove any bushes. For that I give them 5 Stars.
Absolutely one of the best out there! You cannot go wrong using Big Blade, they are awesome.
The price they quoted was the price we paid. No hidden fees! Quality work at a fair price! Professional and courteous!
After having a different company come out and price gouge me and calling around I couldn’t find anybody to help me with my clogged line, I was parked at a gas station and saw BIG BLADE truck drive by so I got out my phone and called, I was greeted on the phone by Denise who was extremely polite and professional, with no high pressure in setting the appointment. The price was extremely fair and affordable so we went ahead and booked an appointment, Hershel and Dylan arrived promptly like within 30-40 minutes of us calling and setting the appointment, they got here and did exactly what they said they were going to without pressuring me into getting other services they executed the repair so fast and explained to me about my 30 day warranty and potential risks to look out for in the future! I would HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND using this service. Amazing job thank you guys so much for you’re help and relieving me of all the stress that comes with plumbing difficulties!

Leak Detection Service
Recognizing when a hidden leak exists is the first step in any successful detection project, and the signs are often subtle until significant damage has already developed behind the scenes. Unexplained increases in water bills compared to historical usage patterns frequently indicate water escaping somewhere in the system without obvious surface evidence to point toward the source. The water meter itself serves as a useful detection tool, since continuous movement when no fixtures are running confirms an active leak somewhere on the property. Marking the meter reading and rechecking after an hour with all water use stopped provides clear evidence of ongoing losses that the homeowner can verify directly without any specialized equipment. Damp spots, staining, or discoloration on walls, ceilings, or floors indicate water has been working its way to visible surfaces from a hidden source nearby. Musty odors in normally dry areas often point to slow leaks producing the moisture conditions that promote mold growth. Reduced water pressure throughout the home suggests significant water loss between the meter and fixtures. Foundation problems, soil settling around the home, unusual moisture in landscaping, or warm spots on flooring can all signal underground or slab leaks affecting the property structurally. Our team helps homeowners identify these signs during initial conversations and prioritizes diagnostic work accordingly to the specific situation the property is presenting.
Acoustic leak detection uses specialized equipment to listen for the distinctive sounds of water escaping from pressurized pipes underground or behind finished surfaces. Pressurized water leaking through a small opening creates vibrations that travel through pipes, soil, and building materials in patterns that trained technicians learn to interpret. Electronic detectors amplify these sounds and filter background noise to isolate the specific frequencies associated with water leaks at various distances. Ground microphones placed at intervals across a yard or floor area help triangulate underground leak locations within a small radius for accurate excavation planning. Pipe contact microphones applied directly to accessible pipes detect leak sounds traveling through the pipe walls from problems further along the line. Headphones allow the technician to focus on the relevant audio without distraction from surrounding noise during the analysis. The method works particularly well for active leaks under continuous pressure but has limitations on intermittent leaks or extremely small problems. Experience interpreting the sounds matters significantly because various background noises from traffic, HVAC equipment, and household activity can mimic leak sounds to inexperienced ears.
Thermal imaging cameras add another diagnostic dimension to leak detection by visualizing temperature differences invisible to the naked eye. Water leaking from hot water lines creates warm spots on walls, ceilings, or floors that show up clearly in thermal imaging analysis of affected areas. Cold water leaks produce cooler spots in similar patterns that appear differently in the camera image when scanned across surfaces. The technology works particularly well for slab leaks because the concrete tends to show temperature patterns around the leak location that thermal cameras read easily. Wall and ceiling cavities containing water from leaks appear differently than dry cavities through thermal imaging analysis. Limitations include the need for temperature differential between the leaking water and the surrounding surfaces, which may not be significant for slow leaks in temperate indoor conditions. Thermal imaging works best as one tool among several rather than the sole detection method for any specific situation we encounter. Our team uses thermal imaging in combination with acoustic detection and other techniques for comprehensive diagnostic coverage that increases overall accuracy significantly.
Pressure testing isolates portions of the plumbing system to identify which sections contain active leaks during the diagnostic process. The technique involves closing valves to separate the system into sections, then monitoring pressure over time in each section under controlled conditions. Sections without leaks maintain pressure steadily during the test period, while sections containing leaks show pressure decay corresponding to the rate of water loss. The pressure decay rate provides information about the leak size, with rapid decay indicating larger leaks and slow decay suggesting smaller problems that may be harder to locate. Combining pressure testing with the home shutoff arrangement helps distinguish leaks in the main service line from leaks in the interior distribution plumbing. Hot and cold sides can be tested separately to focus diagnostic work on the affected supply path. Pressure testing complements acoustic and thermal methods by quantifying the leak rate and confirming the affected system section before excavation begins. Documenting test results supports the overall diagnostic process and provides evidence for insurance claims when those become relevant later.
Slab leak detection deserves special attention because of the unique challenges that buried plumbing under concrete foundations presents to diagnosis. Hot water lines typically run through the slab in homes built with this configuration, with cold water lines also sometimes embedded in concrete during original construction decades ago. Leaks at these buried pipes create distinctive symptoms including warm spots on the floor, increased water bills, sound of running water with no fixtures active, reduced hot water pressure, and eventually visible moisture at floor surfaces around the affected area. Acoustic detection combined with thermal imaging often pinpoints slab leak locations within a small area before any concrete is disturbed. Pinpointing the leak accurately matters enormously for slab work because exploratory excavation through finished flooring is expensive and disruptive to the homeowner’s daily life. Some slab leaks can be addressed through pipe rerouting that bypasses the affected section through walls and attics rather than breaking through the slab. Other situations require slab access through tunneling from outside or careful concrete work from inside the home. Each approach has cost, time, and disruption implications that our team discusses openly with the homeowner.
Yard and underground leak detection addresses problems with buried water service lines, irrigation systems, and other landscape plumbing across the property. Visible signs include unexplained wet spots that persist during dry weather, lush green grass patches in otherwise normal turf, soggy ground that gives underfoot, or surface depressions developing over time as water washes away supporting soil. The water meter test confirms whether active losses are occurring and roughly when they happen during the day. Acoustic detection works on buried pipes by listening at ground level for the distinctive water escape sounds, with experience guiding interpretation of what the equipment hears. Tracer wire on modern installations supports electronic locating of the actual pipe route, which speeds detection work significantly compared to older installations. Older installations without tracer wire require more diagnostic effort to establish pipe routing before specific leak locations can be identified. Soil probes inserted into suspected areas can confirm moisture conditions consistent with leaks. Sometimes the simplest detection method is selective exposure of suspect sections when other methods suggest a leak location with reasonable confidence. Our team combines methods appropriately for each situation rather than relying on one technique universally.
Documentation and verification complete every leak detection service we perform across Burleson and the surrounding communities we serve regularly. Photographs of the property, marked leak locations, and any visible damage support the diagnostic report we provide to the homeowner at the conclusion of the work. Written findings describe what was detected, where the leak was located, and the recommended response for addressing the problem appropriately. Sketches showing the location of identified leaks help during repair planning and communication with other parties involved in the response. Insurance claims often benefit significantly from professional documentation that establishes the cause, location, and timing of water losses for adjusters reviewing the situation. Real estate transactions sometimes require leak detection findings as part of due diligence on properties showing water-related concerns during inspections. Our team provides the documentation that supports whatever follow-up the homeowner needs, whether that is immediate repair, insurance claim filing, real estate transaction support, or simply records of property condition for future reference. Big Blade Plumbing & Rooter treats every detection project as the foundation for whatever response comes next and delivers work product that supports good decisions.

Why Hiring a Licensed Plumber for Leak Detection Matters in Burleson
Leak detection looks like a simple search, yet wrong conclusions lead to torn-up floors, damaged walls, and missed problems. Licensed plumbers in Texas train on plumbing system design, pressure dynamics, and the equipment needed to find leaks without guesswork. Big Blade Plumbing & Rooter has held a Texas plumbing license since 2007, giving Burleson customers verified, accountable diagnostics. A licensed professional reads pressure tests, meter activity, and acoustic signals together to confirm an exact location. Unlicensed leak hunters often guess based on visible damage, leading to expensive demolition in the wrong spot. Licensed plumbers also recognize when a leak signals a larger issue, such as slab shifting, corroded supply lines, or failing fittings. Texas plumbing code addresses pipe materials, supports, and pressure ratings that all factor into accurate diagnosis. Our crew respects those standards on every call. Liability coverage protects your flooring, walls, and landscaping during the investigation. Honest reporting on the true cause and location comes standard with our service. Catching a leak early prevents mold growth, foundation damage, and skyrocketing water bills. Choosing a licensed plumber like Big Blade Plumbing & Rooter means the leak is found accurately and the repair stays minimal.
Most Common Leak Detection Questions
Hidden leaks raise difficult questions for homeowners trying to understand what is happening in their plumbing systems. Below are the questions Burleson homeowners ask most often before scheduling leak detection.
Several signs suggest hidden water leaks deserve professional investigation. Unexplained increases in water bills compared to historical usage often indicate water escaping the system somewhere. The water meter test provides direct evidence of active leaks when no fixtures are in use. Reduced water pressure throughout the home suggests significant water loss before water reaches fixtures. Damp spots, staining, discoloration, or warped surfaces indicate water has been working through building materials over time.
Less obvious signs deserve attention even when no visible water appears. Musty odors in cabinets, closets, or rooms suggest moisture problems that may stem from hidden leaks. Mold or mildew growth in unusual places indicates moisture conditions promoting biological growth. Cracked or buckling flooring sometimes results from underlying moisture damage. Warm spots on floors point to potential slab leaks in hot water lines beneath the concrete. Sounds of running water with all fixtures off confirm active losses somewhere in the system.
Outdoor signs of underground leaks include unexplained wet spots in the yard that persist even during dry weather. Lush green grass patches in otherwise normal turf often grow above buried leaks that provide constant moisture. Soggy ground or surface depressions indicate water has been moving soil beneath the surface for some time. Foundation movement or cracking can result from water washing away supporting soil. Our team investigates all these signs and uses appropriate diagnostic technology to identify actual leak locations versus innocent explanations for the symptoms.
Leak detection service costs vary based on the type of leak, the area to be investigated, and the diagnostic methods required for accurate location. Basic detection on accessible plumbing systems with clear symptoms often falls in the lower range. Slab leak detection involves more specialized equipment and techniques that cost more than simple visible plumbing work. Yard leak detection on long service lines or large properties may require more time for thorough investigation. Combined detection projects covering multiple suspected leak locations cost more than single-area work.
We provide flat-rate pricing for detection service so customers know the cost before authorizing the work. The detection fee covers the diagnostic work to identify the leak location regardless of the time required. Camera inspection adds modest cost but provides valuable visual documentation. Pressure testing typically falls within the detection service scope. Documentation including photographs, sketches, and written findings becomes part of the service deliverable.
Detection costs are typically modest compared to the value of accurate diagnosis. The alternative of exploratory destruction through walls, floors, or yards costs significantly more in damage and restoration than professional detection investment. Insurance often covers leak detection costs when the resulting damage falls under policy coverage, though specific terms vary by carrier and situation. Quotes always come before work begins so customers can make informed decisions. Big Blade Plumbing & Rooter has built our reputation on honest pricing and accurate work since 2007.
Modern leak detection technology in experienced hands typically locates leaks within a small area, often within inches of the actual problem. Acoustic detection on pressurized water leaks tends to be quite accurate when the leak is active and conditions are suitable for sound propagation. Thermal imaging accuracy depends on temperature differential between leaking water and surrounding surfaces. Pressure testing identifies which system section contains the leak with high reliability. Combining multiple methods improves overall accuracy beyond any single technique.
Several factors affect detection accuracy in specific situations. Active leaks under continuous pressure are easier to detect than intermittent or very slow leaks. Larger leaks produce more diagnostic signal than smaller leaks that may approach the detection threshold of available equipment. Background noise from traffic, machinery, or other sources can interfere with acoustic detection in some environments. Concrete slab construction sometimes complicates detection compared to crawl space or basement plumbing. Wet conditions or recent rain can affect thermal imaging accuracy.
Experience and training improve detection accuracy significantly beyond what the equipment alone provides. Interpreting acoustic signals requires recognizing the difference between leak sounds and various background noises that can mimic leaks. Reading thermal images correctly involves understanding normal temperature patterns and recognizing anomalies that indicate problems. Combining findings from multiple detection methods into a coherent picture takes the judgment that comes from many similar diagnostic situations. Our team brings nearly two decades of leak detection experience to every service call. The investment in proper diagnostic time pays off in accurate location and minimal destructive exploration during repair.
Modern leak detection is non-destructive in the diagnostic phase. Acoustic equipment, thermal imaging, moisture meters, pressure testing, and similar techniques find leaks without cutting walls or breaking floors. The detection methods rely on technology that works through existing finished surfaces. Some access through cabinet panels or removable trim may be needed for connecting test equipment, but this represents minor temporary access rather than destructive exploration.
Repair work following detection typically requires some access to the affected plumbing. The advantage of professional detection is that this access can be precisely targeted to the actual leak location rather than exploratory destruction across larger areas. Small access cuts at the identified leak location allow repair while preserving the maximum amount of surrounding finished surfaces. Slab leak repairs may involve either localized access through the floor or rerouting the affected pipe through walls and attics to avoid slab work entirely. Each approach has tradeoffs that we discuss with the homeowner.
Restoration after repair work is typically handled by drywall, flooring, and finish contractors rather than the plumbing crew. We focus on the plumbing repair itself and recommend trusted restoration contractors when those services are needed. Coordinating with insurance adjusters, water damage restoration companies, and other trades happens throughout major leak projects. Big Blade Plumbing & Rooter handles the plumbing portion of the work with clear handoffs to other trades for related restoration. The overall goal is locating and repairing the leak with minimum disruption to the property and minimum cost to the homeowner.
Several factors contribute to water leaks in residential plumbing systems. Age and wear on pipes and fittings eventually leads to failures regardless of original installation quality. Galvanized steel and copper pipes corrode over decades, eventually developing weak points that leak. Polybutylene piping has documented failure patterns that produce leaks throughout the system. PEX and CPVC piping generally last longer but can still fail at fittings or from physical damage.
Pressure-related issues damage plumbing over time and contribute to leak development. Excessive water pressure above 80 psi stresses pipes, fittings, and connections continuously. Water hammer from quickly closing valves creates pressure spikes that exceed normal operating conditions. Installing a pressure reducing valve at the main entry protects the entire system from pressure-related damage. Pressure surges during freezing weather, when ice expansion compresses remaining water, can damage pipes in ways that lead to leaks once thawing occurs.
Physical damage and ground movement create leaks from external causes. Foundation movement in expansive clay soil common across our service area stresses buried and slab plumbing over time. Construction work near pipes occasionally damages them in ways that lead to delayed failures. Freezing temperatures during hard winter events cause widespread leak development as ice expansion damages pipes. Tree roots can crack pipes in some situations, particularly drain lines but occasionally pressure piping as well. Our team identifies leak causes during detection work to inform recommendations about repair scope and preventive measures.
A slab leak is a leak in plumbing buried beneath or within the concrete foundation slab of a home. Many homes in our service area have plumbing routed through the slab, with hot and cold water lines running between fixtures across the concrete. Leaks in these buried pipes are particularly problematic because the slab construction makes direct access difficult and expensive. The leaks typically develop in copper or galvanized pipes that have corroded over years of contact with concrete, soil chemistry, or water flow.
Symptoms of slab leaks include warm spots on the floor when hot water lines leak, sounds of running water with no fixtures active, increased water bills without explanation, reduced hot water pressure, and eventually visible moisture or staining at floor surfaces. Carpet or other flooring above slab leaks often shows discoloration or unusual dampness. Mold or musty odors can develop when leaks have been active for some time. Foundation cracks or movement can result from soil washing or expansion related to slab leak moisture.
Repair options for slab leaks include direct access through the slab at the leak location, pipe rerouting that abandons the leaking section and runs new piping through walls and attics, or in some cases tunneling from outside to access the pipe without breaking the interior floor. Each option has cost, time, and disruption tradeoffs that the homeowner weighs based on their specific situation. Single slab leaks may justify direct repair, while multiple leaks in the same system often point toward broader repipe options. Our team assesses each situation individually and presents repair options with realistic information about each approach.
Some basic leak detection is within reach of motivated homeowners with attention to detail. The water meter test described earlier provides direct evidence of active leaks somewhere on the property. Monitoring water bills monthly and comparing to historical norms catches developing problems. Walking the property occasionally to look for unexplained wet spots, lush grass, or moisture problems identifies visible signs of underground leaks. Checking cabinets, ceilings, walls, and floors for damp spots, staining, or warping catches signs of interior leaks.
Locating leaks precisely typically requires professional equipment and experience beyond what homeowners possess. Acoustic detection equipment, thermal imaging cameras, and other diagnostic tools represent significant investments that only make sense for plumbers performing this work regularly. Interpreting findings from these tools requires the experience that comes from many similar diagnostic situations. Consumer-grade leak detection products on the market generally lack the sensitivity and selectivity that professional equipment provides. Exploratory destruction through walls or floors to locate leaks visually is expensive and often unnecessary when professional detection can pinpoint problems through existing surfaces.
The case for hiring professional leak detection rests on accuracy and overall cost. Professional service identifies leak locations precisely, allowing targeted repair that minimizes destruction and restoration costs. Insurance often covers professional detection costs when the resulting damage qualifies for policy coverage. Big Blade Plumbing & Rooter has the equipment, training, and experience that accurate leak detection requires. Calling for professional service when leak symptoms appear is typically the most cost-effective response to suspected hidden water problems.
Acting promptly on any suspected leak limits the damage that develops over time. Shutting off water to the affected area or the whole home is appropriate when significant active leaking is happening. Most homes have a main shutoff valve that stops all water flow, and every household member should know its location for emergency use. Individual fixture shutoffs stop flow to specific affected appliances or fixtures when the leak source is clearly identified.
Documentation of damage before any cleanup begins supports insurance claims that may follow. Photographs and video showing wet areas, water damage to property, and the apparent leak source provide visual evidence for adjusters. Cleanup and damage mitigation should begin as soon as possible after the water source is controlled. Towels, mops, wet vacuums, and other available tools help remove standing water that prolongs damage to flooring, drywall, and contents. Moving furniture and personal belongings out of wet areas prevents damage to items that might otherwise be saved.
Calling Big Blade Plumbing & Rooter or another licensed plumbing contractor follows the initial response. Professional detection identifies the leak location precisely so repair can be planned efficiently. Major water events sometimes warrant calling water damage restoration companies in parallel with the plumbing response. Coordination between trades happens throughout significant incidents to keep work moving and minimize disruption. Documenting everything supports insurance claims that may significantly reduce out-of-pocket costs. Our team responds to leak detection calls throughout Burleson and surrounding communities with the urgency these situations deserve.
